Linocut Prints
Hand-carved and hand-pressed prints, inspired by the natural world and coastal landscapes of New Jersey
Linocut printing is a form of relief printing that originated in the early 20th century. It was developed as a more accessible and affordable alternative to woodcut printing, especially during the modernist movements like Expressionism. Artists began carving into linoleum, which was softer and easier to cut than wood, allowing for greater flexibility in creating detailed designs.
My linocuts are created by drawing the image onto a linoleum block or sheet. Then I use carving tools to remove the areas that will not hold ink. The remaining raised areas are inked, and I press a sheet of paper the block to transfer the image with a hand press (no fancy printing press here). The process is repeated for multiple prints, but each one will always be slightly different depending on how much ink and pressure is applied each time.
Sincerely,

This series is inspired by all of our LGBTQ+ warriors. Created during pride month, this series is designed to serve as a reminder that love truly is just that... love. It can be welcoming, or painful. Love can be beautiful or torturous. Regardless of how we as humans feel love, it is ours alone to feel. Love your brothers and your sisters. Love your friends and enemies alike. But above all else,
love yourself.
Sincerely,
Jewels
